Chicago Med Spas Audit: 90% Have No Chat or Text Widget
We audited 40 med spas in Chicago in October 2026. 72% offer online booking, but 90% have no chat or text widget, 42% have no click-to-call link, and only 4 websites have the full stack.

Short answer: In October 2026 we audited 40 med spas listed in Chicago. Booking here is healthier than the national picture — 29 spas (72%) offer it. Response is not: 90% have no live chat or text widget, 62% have booking with no instant way to ask a question, and only 4 websites combine booking, instant response, and a working site. Every figure on this page comes from that audit, part of our US med spa booking report covering 606 spas in 18 metros.
Chicago’s med spas have done the expensive part. What the audit shows is how much of the patient journey still runs through a front-desk phone after the booking software is already paid for.

The funnel: 40 spas become 4

The median Chicago spa in this audit has 138 Google reviews. These are found, chosen, and then — at 36 of 40 websites — a patient with a question has no instant way to ask it. They can book a treatment they are unsure about, or they can call during business hours. Chicago’s funnel does not leak at discovery or even at booking. It leaks at the conversation in between.
Finding 1: booking is ahead of the nation, platforms are not
72% of Chicago spas offer online booking versus 71% nationally — but only 10 of 40 (25%) use a recognized booking platform such as Zenoti, Boulevard, Square, or Vagaro. The rest run their own booking pages, which work until they do not: no platform behind them means nobody is maintaining the flow, sending the reminders, or noticing when it breaks. 4 of the 40 websites (10%) did not load at all on audit day.
Finding 2: 90% cannot answer a question instantly
This is Chicago’s defining number. 36 of 40 websites have no live chat or text widget. 65% have no contact or consultation form either — so for most Chicago med spas, a website visitor’s options are: book blind, or telephone. And when that telephone call is missed — during a treatment, at lunch, after close — nothing automatic answers it. Missed call text back exists precisely for that moment: a text in the first seconds, with a booking link, while the patient is still holding their phone.
Finding 3: mobile basics are unfinished
42% of Chicago med spa websites do not make the phone number tap-to-call, on homepages that most patients will only ever see on a phone. 36% loaded slowly in our check. Individually these are ten-minute fixes. Stacked together across 40 businesses, they describe a market competing on treatments and prices while leaving the front door half-built — which is exactly why finishing it is an advantage: only 4 Chicago spas in this audit have.

How this audit was done
- Sample: med spas and aesthetic clinics listed on Google Maps for Chicago, found with “med spa,” “medical spa,” and “aesthetic clinic” searches in October 2026 — 40 businesses after de-duplication by listing ID.
- Dates: listings collected 22–23 October 2026; every website checked on 23 October 2026.
- Definitions: online booking = a recognized booking platform (23 checked, including Zenoti, Boulevard, Square, Vagaro, Mangomint) or a booking page/path on the spa’s own site. A phone number or contact form does not count. Chat = a known live-chat or web-text widget vendor in the homepage code. Speed = one timed homepage fetch from a remote server, indicative rather than a lab score.
- Verification and limitations: a random sample of flagged sites across the series was re-checked manually in a browser and the flags held — including a Chicago spa whose site invites patients to “book your appointment today” in prose but offers no booking path anywhere. Homepage-based checks could miss a booking path with no homepage trace; a booking link to a broken flow still counts as booking. Full methodology in the national report.
